Lenses for photosensitive epilepsy
Zeiss Claret Z1 (F133) blue lenses
- Blue tinted lenses (filter red light) have the most research support
- 610 patients in a large study had Z1 lenses abolish the EEG light response in 75% and reduced in additional 18% and unchanged in 6%
- Red is the most epileptogenic wavelength
- The darker the tint the more reduction possible but vision is also reduced especially in lower light environments
Other blue lens tints
- B1+G1 or B1+G2 combinations have shows EEG improvement as well.
Other complementary strategies
- wearing regular sunglasses
- covering one eye
- sitting > 2 meters from screens
- reducing screen contrast
